CELPIP Writing samples for Email and Survey for 10-12 bands

EMAIL :

You recently graduated from university. You have just been interviewed for a new job. The interviewers liked you and they are interested in hiring you. First, however, you need a letter of reference from a teacher at your university that explains your strengths.

Write an email of about 150–200 words to your university teacher and ask for a reference letter. Your email should do the following things:

-Remind the teacher about who you are
-Provide information about your interview
-Ask for a reference

Dear Ms. Maple,

I am your ex-student Jason Andrew from the Management-2 class of the 2022 (Student ID MN-9876) at the Cardiff University. I am one of the students whom you had accompanied for the grand finale of the Inter-Province Quiz Competition held in January 2022 at The Pacific Auditorium in Vancouver. I had won a second prize in the Competition under your mentorship and you had gifted me a book for my feat.

Recently, after graduating in Business Management, I started my job hunt. Interestingly, I was recently interviewed for an opening at ABC Business Solutions, a multi-national corporation engaged in arranging venture funds to establish their businesses. The interview went well and the interviewers expressed their interest in my candidature.

However, they require a letter of reference from a teacher at the University who could explain about my strengths and I could not think of a better person than you. You had guided me through one of the very engaging but tough course loads of the academic year and you also judged my Project work on ‘Business & Logistics’. You are more aware about my personality traits than anyone else.

Hence, I request you to write a reference letter for me , explaining my strengths as you have seen and assessed during the time you taught me. I will be highly obliged for the same. I urgently need it by July 31st. You can e-mail the same to me. In case you have any questions, I will be ready to answer them.

Yours sincerely,

Jason

SURVEY:

Your apartment manager is surveying your opinion about the swimming pool in your building. Currently, your building has a swimming pool, but it is really old and needs to be renovated. Some tenants prefer to have a small gym instead of a pool. The apartment manager has asked you to complete an opinion survey.

Choose the option that you prefer. Why do you prefer your choice? Explain the reasons for your choice. Write about 150–200 words.

Option A: I would like to keep the swimming pool.
Option B: I would like to have a gym.

It is important for people of all ages to engage in some kind of physical activity in their daily lives. And I believe that having a swimming pool rather than a gym in our apartment complex will be blessing in disguise for everyone as swimming can both be a good exercise as well as a recreational activity. My argument stems from two factors mainly.

Firstly, gymnasiums are fairly common and are available all around. As we walk out a few steps from our Complex, we find a huge gym at the corner of the road which is open 24 hours a day. However, to go to a swimming pool one has to drive down a few blocks. So, surely having one in the Complex will provide much needed respite to residents who wish to go swimming but don’t want to be bothered with driving.

Another factor is that gymnasiums are mostly used by youngsters as they find working out on the equipment fairly comfortable. On the contrary, children and the elderly rarely find the gym useful as they are either forbidden from using the tough gym gear or are more vulnerable to injuries. But swimming pools can be a perfect place for people of all ages. Everyone can enjoy the pool regardless of their physical abilities. People can do exercise or simply relax in water as per their convenience and ability.

Thus, in my opinion our apartment complex will benefit more from having a pool instead of a gym.
