Task 1 :
You missed an appointment with a friend. Write a letter to your friend. In your letter:
•Apologize for missing the appointment
•Explain why you couldn’t make it
•Suggest a new time and place to meet
Dear Amavi,
How are you? Hope you are doing well. I am also in good spirits. I am writing to apologize for missing our appointment last week. I know how much I was looking forward to meeting you, and I am truly regretful that I could not keep it. I feel terrible about missing our meeting.
You might be wondering why could I not keep the appointment? Because I had an unexpected personal commitment that arose suddenly that could not be rescheduled and it conflicted with our meeting time. Despite my best efforts, I could not adjust my schedule to meet you as planned, and I ended up having to prioritize the commitment due to its urgency and importance.
I was really looking forward to catching up with you and discussing everything that is going on in my life. I am also eager to know what is new in your life. So, how about we reschedule for this week? Would you be free to meet on Saturday or Sunday? Apart from that, we could grab coffee and catch up on the vital things that are going on in our lives.
Let me know a time that suits you, and I will make sure to keep it in mind. I am looking forward to hearing a positive response. Hope to see you soon.
Yours lovingly,
Khushboo
Nowadays, people are wearing similar styles of clothing instead of traditional attire.
What are the positives and negatives of this trend.Give examples?
Task 2:
In the past, individuals often used to wear traditional attires on various occasions showcasing their cultures. However, there has been a noticeable shift towards a style of dressing in recent times. Therefore, this essay will shed light on both optimistic and pessimistic aspects of this trend with relevant examples in the following paragraphs.
The most preponderant benefit of wearing standard dress is the convenience and practicality, because people can easily mix and match outfits, reducing dilemmas and saving time. For instance, I have noticed that my friends often wear jeans and t-shirts for casual outings, which helps them identify with each other mentally. Additionally, the standard dress can help bridge cultural and socio-economic gaps, so everyone looks similar and blends. I have observed that in some workplaces, a uniform dress code helps to create a sense of unity among employees.
However, this trend also has some negative effects, like it may weaken the bond of cultural identity and heritage, as traditional dress often holds significant cultural and historical value, and changing them can lead to a disconnection from one’s roots. For example, many people like to wear Western outfits instead of traditional attire. Moreover, when everyone is wearing the same styles, then people may feel pressured to conform, suppressing their personal expression. Hence, it is cumbersome to express their unique style in a sea of similar outfits.
It can be reiterated that the shift to standard dress for traditional occasions has both positives and negatives, like boosting convenience and equality, but on the other side, there are risks of cultural loss and being unable to show uniqueness of dress. So, both aspects of this development should not be neglected for a balance between modern personality and cultural heritage.
