PTE Academic Agree or Disagree Essay Sample

A good listener is better than a good talker in social situations. Do you agree or disagree?

In social situations, communication plays a crucial role in building relationships and understanding others. Some people believe that being a good talker is the most valuable skill. However, I strongly agree that being a good listener is far more beneficial because it helps individuals understand others better and creates stronger personal connections.
To begin with, good listening skills allow people to understand the feelings, ideas, and opinions of others. When individuals listen carefully, they show respect and interest in the conversation. This encourages the speaker to express themselves more openly and honestly. For instance, in a group discussion, a person who listens attentively can better understand different perspectives before responding. As a result, communication becomes more meaningful and effective.
Furthermore, good listeners are often more successful in building trust and maintaining strong relationships. People naturally feel comfortable around those who genuinely listen to them. In social gatherings, individuals who pay attention to others rather than constantly speaking are usually seen as considerate and thoughtful. For example, when someone listens patiently to a friend’s problem, it strengthens their bond and creates a sense of mutual respect. Consequently, listening helps develop deeper and more lasting relationships.
In conclusion, although speaking well is an important communication skill, listening plays an even more significant role in social interactions. By understanding others and building trust, good listeners contribute to more positive and meaningful social experiences. Therefore, I firmly agree that a good listener is better than a good talker in social situations.
