TASK 1 – You recently moved to a new city. Write a letter to your friend. In your letter:
•Describe the city and your first impressions
•Explain any challenges you faced after moving
•Invite your friend to visit you
Dear Sam,
I hope you’re doing well! I wanted to write and tell you about my recent move to Vancouver.
My first impressions of the city have been really positive. It’s a vibrant and lively place, with stunning views of the mountains and the ocean. The neighbourhoods are quite diverse, and there’s always something interesting to explore, whether it is a local cafe, park, or a shopping area.
However, the move has not been completely smooth. One of the biggest challenges I faced was finding affordable accommodation, as rent here is quite high. Also, adjusting to a new environment and routine took some time, especially since everything looked unfamiliar at first.
Now that I am more settled, I would love you to visit me here. We could explore the city together, go sightseeing, and even plan a short trip to nearby attractions. I am sure you would really enjoy the experience.
Do let me know if you can make it sometime soon. I am looking forward to hearing from you!
Regards
Anaya
Task 2 – Some people believe that technology has made our lives more complicated rather than simpler.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
In recent years, technological advancements have transformed almost every aspect of human life. While some argue that these developments have introduced unnecessary complexity, I strongly believe that technology has, on balance, made our lives significantly easier, despite a few drawbacks.
On the one hand, it is understandable why some individuals perceive technology is complicating daily life. The constant need to adapt to new devices, software updates, and digital platforms can be overwhelming, particularly for older generations. Furthermore, the overreliance on technology has led to issues such as information overload and reduced face-to-face interaction, which can make communication feel less personal and, at times, more stressful.
On the other hand, the benefits of technology in simplifying everyday tasks are undeniable. For instance, innovations such as smartphones and online services have made communication instant and convenient, allowing people to connect across vast distances with ease. In addition, technology has streamlined many routine activities, from online banking to grocery shopping, saving both time and effort. In the workplace, automation and digital tools have increased efficiency and productivity, enabling individuals to accomplish more in less time.
In my view, although technology may initially seem complex, especially during periods of transition, its long-term advantages surely outweigh its disadvantages. With proper understanding and adaptation, most people can use technological tools to enhance their quality of life rather than complicate it.
In conclusion, while technology can introduce certain challenges, I firmly believe that it has ultimately simplified human life in numerous ways and continues to do so as it evolves.
