Task 1 –
You are taking an evening course at a local college, but you will not be able to attend classes for the next two weeks because of work commitments.
Write a letter to your course tutor. In your letter:
•Explain why you cannot attend the course
•Describe how this will affect your studies
•Ask about what you can do to catch up
Write at least 150 words.
Dear Mr Brown,
I am John, a student of Language class with student ID no.236.I am writing to inform you that I will be unable to attend my evening English course for the next two weeks because of an unexpected change to my work schedule.
My manager has asked me to assist with an important project, and I am required to work overtime every evening until the end of the month. Unfortunately, this means that I will not be able to attend any of the classes during this period.
I am concerned that missing two weeks of lessons may affect my progress, especially because I know we will be covering several important topics. I have been enjoying the course and do not want to fall behind my classmates.
Could you please let me know if there are any class notes, reading materials, or assignments that I could complete at home? I would also appreciate your advice on whether I should arrange a meeting with you after I return to discuss any work that I have missed.
Thank you for your understanding. I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and look forward to rejoining the class soon.
Yours sincerely,
David Lee
Task 2 –
Many people choose to work from home rather than travel to an office every day.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of working from home?
Write at least 250 words.
In recent years, working from home has become increasingly common due to improvements in technology and changes in working practices. Although this way of working offers several benefits, it also has some drawbacks.I would be dwelling upon both the aspects in forthcoming paragraphs.
One major advantage of working from home is that it saves both time and money. Employees no longer need to commute, which reduces transport costs and allows them to spend more time with their families or on personal activities. In addition, working remotely often provides greater flexibility, enabling people to organise their schedules more effectively. As a result, many workers experience a better balance between their professional and personal lives.
Another benefit is that employers may also reduce business expenses. Companies can save money on office space, electricity, and other operating costs. Furthermore, remote working can increase productivity because employees often experience fewer interruptions than they would in a busy office environment.
However, there are also some disadvantages too. One significant problem is that people who work from home may feel isolated because they have fewer opportunities to interact with colleagues. This lack of social contact can reduce ability to do teamwork and negatively affect employees’ mental well-being. Another drawback is that some individuals find it difficult to separate work from their personal lives. Without clear boundaries, they may work longer hours and experience increased stress.
In conclusion, working from home offers several important advantages, including greater flexibility, lower commuting costs, and reduced business expenses. However, it can also lead to social isolation and poor work-life boundaries. Overall there can be a balance between the two which can improve the productivity of the employees.
