IELTS GENERAL Writing Sample for Task 1 & 2

Task 1 –

You recently moved to a new town. Write a letter to your friend inviting him/her to visit you.
In your letter:
•Tell your friend about your new home
•Suggest some interesting things you can do together
•Explain why you would like your friend to visit
Write at least 150 words.

Dear Sarah,
I hope you are doing well. It has been a while since we last met, so I thought I should write and invite you to visit me in my Surrey where I have moved recently.
I made this move here about a month ago because of my new job. My apartment is small but comfortable, with two bedrooms, a modern kitchen, and a lovely balcony overlooking a nearby park. The neighborhood is peaceful, and everything I need is within a walking distance.
There are plenty of exciting places we can visit together. We could spend a day exploring the town centre, try some local restaurants, and visit the beautiful lake nearby. There are also several walking trails where we can enjoy the fresh air and take lots of photos. If the weather is nice, we could even have a picnic in the park.
I would really love you to come because I miss spending time with you. It would also be a great chance for you to see my new home and help me decorate it better. I am sure we would have a wonderful time together.
Please let me know if you can come next month. I am looking forward to seeing you soon.
Best wishes,
Emily

Task 2 –

Many cities around the world are facing serious traffic congestion.
What problems does this cause, and what measures can be taken to solve these problems?
Write at least 250 words.

Traffic congestion has become a major issue in many cities across the world. As the number of private vehicles continues to increase, roads are becoming overcrowded, leading to a range of social, economic, and environmental problems. This essay will discuss the main problems caused by traffic congestion and suggest some effective solutions.
One of the most serious problems is the amount of time people waste in traffic. Many workers spend hours travelling to and from work every day, which reduces their productivity and leaves them with less time for family and leisure activities. In addition, traffic jams increase air pollution because vehicles remain on the road for longer periods while producing harmful emissions. This can damage the environment and contribute to health problems such as asthma and other respiratory diseases. Furthermore, heavy traffic often delays emergency services, making it more difficult for ambulances and fire engines to reach the victims quickly.
Several measures can be taken to address these problems. Firstly, governments should invest more in reliable and affordable public transportation, including buses and rail networks. If public transport is convenient and efficient, more people will choose it instead of driving. Secondly, cities should improve cycling lanes and pedestrian facilities to encourage people to use environment – friendly forms of transport. Finally, introducing congestion charges or higher parking fees in busy city centers could discourage unnecessary car use and reduce the number of vehicles on the roads.
In conclusion, traffic congestion creates significant problems, including wasted time, pollution, and delays in emergency services. However, these issues can be reduced through better public transport, improved infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians, and policies that can discourage excessive use of private cars.
