You recently stayed at a hotel with your family. This was your first time staying at that hotel and you were very unhappy with your experience.
Write an email to the hotel manager in about 150–200 words. Your email should do the following things:
- Describe your unpleasant experience.
- Ask the manager to repay you in some way
- Suggest how things could be improved
Dear Mr. Denver,
My name is Anna Heather and I wish to express the extreme dissatisfaction that I experienced as a guest at your esteemed hotel. I stayed in Room No. 4877 with my mother on June 21st and 22nd and my booking number was – AH2563.
Firstly, despite having informed beforehand that I was travelling with an elderly person, the room that was provided was not senior-friendly. There was no bedside stool for my mother to get onto the bed. Neither were there any no low bars in the toilet. Similarly, the bathroom was also equally ill-equipped, posing accidental risks.
To top it, when I discussed the matter with the front desk, they expressed their inability to help us due to heavy bookings. We were left completely dismayed and frustrated for two days adjusting with the situation. This did not provide us a chance to relish our stay freely which we had anticipated. In an industry where Customer is the King, does it leave any scope for erratic service like this?
I hope that the hotel can compensate me somehow for the bitter experience I had. Perhaps a sizable discount at a future booking can be provided. Furthermore, kindly re-train your Bookings staff so that in future no overlapping of room-bookings is done causing inconvenience to customers.
I look forward to your response on the matter and can be directly contacted at 2357889.
Regards,
Anna

Community Library Survey
Your local library is surveying the community on ways to raise funds so that the library can remain open 7 days a week. There are two options being considered. One option is to increase fines for overdue books. The other option is to charge library members a small annual fe
Choose the option that you prefer. Why do you prefer your choice? Explain the reasons for your choice. Write about 150–200 words.
Option A: I prefer an increase in the fines for overdue books.
Option B: I prefer to pay the library an annual membership fee.
I strongly favour option B as it seems to be a more balanced and inclusive way to generate funds.
My support stems from the reason that our community loves the library for providing a warm, safe and inclusive space for everyone to relax and enjoy books and journals. People of all ages and from all walks of life visit it. Hence, everyone will happily contribute a small annual sum without any hesitation so as to keep it open daily.
Moreover, in today’s world quite a few people live alone. Since there are events held at the library from time to time like the lectures, workshops and games sessions, it helps foster community ties and sense of belongingness amongst all. If the library opens everyday, lonely people will have the opportunity to interact socially instead of living isolated lives on certain days of the week.
Last but not the least, income earned from fines will act as a deterrent for returning books late, not enhance the importance of the library. On the contrary, a small annual fee will be contributed out of respect for the library. The gesture will support the position it has in the everyday lives of its patrons.
So, in my opinion Option B is a more positive way to garner funds.
