CELPIP Writing Sample for Task 1 & 2

You recently subscribed to a newsletter of a health organisation to know about the recent updates to stay healthy, but it has not been beneficial to you. Write a letter to the Company saying ;

  • Why you subscribed to the newsletter
  • why you do not find it useful
  • what changes would you like to have in it

Dear Mr. Roth,

I am subscriber to the ‘Health News’ published by your organization and my subscriber No. is VAN0987. I joined the subscription services 3 months ago and I regret to inform you that the recent updates being provided therein regarding healthy lifestyle fall short of the intended information I had expected.

When I subscribed to your newsletter, I had hoped to receive news regarding achieving a more energetic day with easy diet changes coupled with some simple lifestyle alterations. Since working people like me have little or no time for themselves, it seemed a few practical adjustments would help out with achieving my goal.

However, the information provided in the newsletter has provided little help. The workouts suggested are impossible to do without professional help. Further, the dietary ingredients recommended are not easily available in local stores, making them expensive and difficult to find. Is it not right to expect useful tips from an esteemed organization like yours ?

I propose that you make the journal easy to follow with workouts suggested being simple to assimilate in our routine lives. Also, recipes with locally available produce will be very helpful to people like me.

I hope you will look into the above recommendations and implement in your next publications.I look forward to see these changes in the future.

Regards,

Sue Ben

Your sports club wants to change the flooring of the skating rink. They are holding a survey and would like to have your view point. There are 2 options :
Option 1 – The team members will change the flooring themselves as it is cheaper
Option 2 – A professional will change the flooring as it would be the safer option.

The two options suggested have both their respective merits, but for me Option 2 is a clear winner.
This stems from the basic premise of greater public safety. A skating rink will be a place where amateurs and beginners will learn how to skate. Each one will also face several falls during this process. A flooring set out by an unprofessional team may lead to uneven surface and serious accidents.
In addition, the skating floor will be used for specific activities only. While the professionals will set the floor in special gear and equipment, ensuring that the floor remains smooth and scratch free, this might not be the case if we try to do things ourselves. Further, if the club purchases or hires the special gear, the costs will add up. To illustrate, the costs were significantly higher when the new locker area was built by members last year.
Conversely, it may be expensive to hire a professional team to do the flooring. But keeping in view the medical costs and, perhaps, litigation costs in case of an untoward incident , it is better to bite the silver bullet now. After all, prevention is always better than cure .
Hence, though Option 2 seems more expensive, I believe it will actually prove to be cheaper in the long run.
