Task 1 (Email) –
You are taking an evening class at your local university, which is related to your job. On the last day of class, your professor announces that she is leaving the university because she was hired as a full-time professor at another university.
Write an email to your professor in about 150–200 words. Your email should do the following things:
- Express how you feel about her leaving and her new position.
- Explain what you enjoyed about her class.
- Request to stay in contact and suggest a few ways to do so.
Dear Ma’am,
I am Linda and I attended your accounting class during the summer session of 2025 at Pacific University, where you taught the evening batch. It was really a very impressive and inspiring session for all your students. Of late, I checked on the university notice board that you will be moving to another university and a new teacher would be replacing you. I am extremely happy to know that you have got a new career opportunity and will soon be working as a full-time professor.
I greatly enjoyed attending your classes and learning from you. Your in-depth knowledge of accounting principles and procedures coupled with real life examples, made understanding the subject a piece of cake. Furthermore, your personal attention to my shortcomings along with careful hand-holding through difficult parts of the subject greatly enhanced my confidence, soothing away all my apprehensions in my capabilities. It has helped me perform well in my exams and equipped me with the required knowledge. Rarely does one come across a teacher who puts so much heart and soul in her duty as you do.
Though you embark on a new journey now, can I request you to stay connected as I might seek your esteemed guidance for my career decisions in the future? If you allow, can I connect with you through LinkedIn? It would be an honor for me to keep in touch with an amazing teacher like you. Hoping to hear from you soon.
I wish you all the best for your future.
Regards,
Linda
Task 2 (Survey) –
Your manager is surveying your opinion about fundraising for the community. This year’s fundraising goal is $1,000. One option is to sell $2 chocolate bars to friends and family over a period of two months. The other option is to host a dinner party at a local restaurant for family and friends and charge each guest $30.
Choose the option that you prefer. Why do you prefer your choice? Explain the reasons for your choice. Write about 150-200 words.
Option A: I would like to sell chocolate bars for two months.
Option B: I would like to help plan and host a dinner party.
I would like to sell chocolate bars to family and friends over a two-month period to collect proceeds for the fundraiser. My preference stems from two main reasons.
At the outset, chocolate bars are an inexpensive option for everyone. One would not think twice handing out two dollars for a charitable cause since it’s a humble amount. Since human psyche thrives on the feeling of having helped out others, buying inexpensive chocolates will have a wider appeal as it would offer people a feel-good factor at a very little cost.
Another important factor is that many people have food allergies and since ingredients in a chocolate bar are written on the wrapper, there will be no chance of causing any harm to anyone. For example, if anyone is allergic to nuts, they can buy milk chocolate instead.
Conversely, cooked meals normally contain many ingredients and people with allergies may feel apprehensive about eating them. As they will have only a limited choice of dishes to eat, they may be reluctant to buy expensive tickets to the dinner party.
Hence, in my opinion, it would be easier to sell chocolate bars to everyone and achieve our target of collecting 1000 dollars.
